Intro: there is still no ban on smoking in public spaces and no corresponding fine and enforcement system in place. Everywhere I go with my family, there are people smoking within malls, restaurants, coffee shops and all sorts of enclosed spaces while me, my wife and little kids suffocate and choke on our food trying to gasp for some oxygen.
So one has to ask: Is the ministry serious about this?

Intro: The editorial on smoking says nonsmokers should learn to relax and stop telling other people what to do with their health. What the editorial fails to take into account is the effect of cigarette smoke on my health as a non-smoker.
I have severe asthma, and cigarette smoke is one of my triggers. Last summer, I attempted to go to a few events in public parks.

Intro: A person shall not sell or hand over tobacco products to a person who is or apparently is under the age of 18 years, which restriction is self-imposed by distributors and retailers. Surprisingly, there is no law on smoking age limit by the government. A 10-year-old walk right into a store and simply buys tobacco, no questions asked by the shopkeeper. Who is responsible? May be the government .Why is cigarette available to students under 18? Can’t there be any law for it?
There should be strict law by the government on smoking age limit .Anyone who breaks the law should be jailed so that people take seriously it.

Intro: Re "Mayor Calls for Residential Smoking Rules" (news article, April 19): Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's proposal for a building disclosure policy will help New Yorkers make informed choices on where they live. Just as they do when learning of lead paint and asbestos, they can decide if they want to live in a home where they will not be exposed to secondhand smoke.
We are fielding more calls on secondhand smoke in residential buildings than on any other tobacco control issue, and 311 calls are increasing as well. The move toward more smoke-free housing options in New York City is a natural next step to protect the health of our families. Isn't it time we let New Yorkers choose how and where they want to live?

Intro: I wish to publicise - yet again - the despicable spectacle of staff in scrubs smoking outside the doors of the new Downe Hospital.
How often do we need reminding of the no smoking policy of the South Eastern Health Trust?
How arrogant is the sight of staff in scrubs smoking openly outside that part of the hospital which deals with A&E injuries?
