Intro: Five years after Northern Ireland went smoke-free, drivers of work vehicles are still the biggest culprits when it comes to flouting the law, it has been revealed.
Today is the fifth anniversary of legislation banning smoking in the workplace, and in closed public spaces, as well as in vehicles such as taxis, buses, vans and lorries.
But while pubs and restaurants have shown a 98% compliance rate, Department of Health statistics have revealed some smokers are ignoring the law and lighting up behind the wheel while driving a work vehicle.

Intro: Legislative labor committees shot down an effort to allow companies to discriminate against employees who smoke but gave approval to a bill expanding whistleblower protections Thursday. Senate Bill 113 would have repealed a two-decade-old law prohibiting companies from taking into account tobacco use when hiring, firing, promoting or considering any other employment action.

Intro: The Jakarta administration will comply with the Constitutional Court ruling that requires building owners to provide smoking rooms, scrapping the ban against the rooms in a gubernatorial decree.
Governor Fauzi Bowo, however, said that the city vowed to strengthen efforts to uphold the smoking ban as regulated in a bylaw.
“We will not stop our efforts in upholding the smoking ban as mandated by the bylaw. We will boost our efforts and we will also seek help from NGOs to help monitor our efforts,” Fauzi said.

Cigarette smokers penalized as anti-smoking efforts intensify across all industries Jump to full article: Korea Herald (kr), 2012-04-17 Author: Kim So-hyun
Intro: A number of companies are going beyond the usual anti-smoking campaign to put smokers at a disadvantage for promotions or perks.
Samsung Electronics Co. recently joined in taking this strong-handed approach, signaling similar moves in other large firms.
The electronics giant sent out an e-mail to its 35,000 employees in the device solution division on Friday, warning that smoking will be detrimental to their chances for promotions to the executive-level, dispatch to overseas branches or selection as overseas regional experts.
A non-smoker will be chosen over a smoker with similar evaluation scores for promotion, which means it will be nearly impossible for smokers to become executives, a Samsung official said.
