Officials with Swedish Match are concerned a federal bill authorizing regulation for tobacco products by the Food and Drug Administration will hamper the company's ability to do business and affect its Owensboro operation. . . .

Swedish Match officials are concerned about an FDA bill sponsored by Republican senators Judd Gregg of New Hampshire and Mike DeWine of Ohio. In a teleconference Friday morning, Chuck Roerty, vice president, general counsel and secretary for Swedish Match, and Chuck Melander, the company's vice president for research, development and quality assurance, said the Gregg-DeWine bill would limit the company's ability to market new products. The bill, they said, would also place overly harsh warning labels on smokeless tobacco products.
