Fla. Court Overturns $1 Million Judgment for Smoker's Family 

In August, an appeals court ruled on a pretrial motion by the tobacco company requesting that the case be moved to Maddox's home Palm Beach County, several hundred miles south of Jacksonville.. That judge later said he was unaware that the case had been heard and decided, even though the testimony was regularly featured on national television and the verdict was widely reported.

A Jacksonville trial judge in October refused to overturn the case based on that order but transferred the case to a Palm Beach court for further appeals. Brown & Williamson appealed that decision, leading to the unsigned, one-paragraph order issued on Friday, which ordered the case transferred to Palm Beach or Broward County.
